Hi, I'm Lisa. I am a watercolor artist, surface designer, writer, and amateur photographer. I have taken thousands of pictures of the things, colors, and people that I love. I use them as inspiration. And sometimes, they end up in my work.
I started drawing when I was a kid. It got me through happy & sad times, and all the awkward ones in between. I loved to draw, and I was pretty constant at it. It was my happy place as a kid.
When I was in middle school, I found the perfect tree stump at my grandpa's house. It was complete with an attached footrest to help me hold up my drawing board at the perfect angle. My family looked at me like I was crazy to be so excited over a tree stump. And that I wanted to bring it home. It worked and worked well. So, when I drew outside that was my spot.
The picture to the right is one of my favorite drawings I did as a kid. It was originally drawn on a sheet of 19 x 25 school paper for art class. Yep, it comes complete with staple marks and even a water line. It hangs on my kitchen wall as a beautiful imperfect reminder of that time in my life. It still inspires me today. My mom has the yellowed original hanging in her kitchen. I drew it at the age of twelve, and it won the only art contest I entered in middle school. Just as every watercolor has a story, I guess that could be said for every art piece.
I stopped drawing after high school and didn't pick up a pencil again until just a few years ago. That's when I started painting. Today I prefer watercolor and love doing watercolor washes, and line work. When it comes to my approach, sometimes I have something specific I want to draw first and then paint, and other times I only paint. I enjoy watercolor, and it is my favorite medium of choice—I love the transparency of each color I use, whether it's vibrant or a soft clear color.
The ability to build up a color layer by layer or just do a clear soft wash makes it fun and interesting for me. That only watercolor can do. Color inspires me, God inspires me and the music I listen to inspires me. When I paint, I crank up the music and sometimes... I can get lost for hours at a time in creating. Welcome to my happy place. I love color. Especially the colors of sunsets, oceans, and flowers. I hope you enjoy my work, and it puts a smile on your face. And if it inspires you in some way, then I have achieved something pretty special. :) Thanks for buying & looking at my art. Stay in touch. Remember, every watercolor has a story!

The colors in nature inspire me, whether they be vibrant or pale. The colors in my paintings lean toward my favorite subjects, such as florals, landscapes, or seascapes.
